CHaOS at the Cambridge Science Festival 2013

Once again CHaOS enjoyed running "Crash, Bang, Squelch!" and taking part in the Cavendish Laboratory Physics day as part of this year's Cambridge Science Festival. Both events were extremely busy and everyone that attended looked like they enjoyed the fun hands-on science on show. On Saturday 16th March CHaOS ran "Crash, Bang, Squelch!" in the University of Cambridge Department of Zoology laboratories. The event was full to capacity all day and the seven spectacular talks throughout the day were also very well attended. The following weekend, a selection of our physics experiments were out again as part of Physics Zone at the Cavendish Laboratory, with many hundreds of people coming through the door during the day. You can find much more information in our report of the day.

What is "Crash, Bang, Squelch!"?
Crash, Bang, Squelch! is a day of hands-on science experiments that takes place in the University of Cambridge Department of Zoology each March, and is run by the student society Cambridge Hands-On Science - more fondly known as CHaOS. On one Saturday in March we take over a large lab, filling them full of fun, interactive science experiments, each of which is demonstrated by a friendly student volunteers. The first "Crash, Bang, Squelch!" took place in 1998 and we've continued to develop the event each year. We said in 2012 that it was our busiest ever event, but this was also true this year, despite the rain!

2012 CHaOS Summer Roadshow Report

Now that our 2012 Summer Science Roadshow has finished, we've collated our diary, photos and visitors comments into our Summer Roadshow report.

You can read about our visits to schools, showing our exciting hands-on experiments to primary and secondary school children in Hertfordshire, Hampshire and Devon. We also report on our events that were open to the public, where our enthusiastic team of demonstrators from the University of Cambridge explained the science behind our experiments to visitors of all ages.

CHaOS would like to thank everyone who was involved in the 2012 Roadshow including our demonstrators and all the helpful people in schools, halls and community centres. The Roadshow couldn't have run without the financial support of our sponsors:

Thank you to everyone who took part!

Thanks to everyone who came to see us on the 2012 Roadshow! The visits were a huge success, and we're just working our way through lots of lovely feedback, which we'll post a summary of here in the form of a Roadshow report.

Until then you can check out our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/chaosscience

If you saw us on the Roadshow and and would like your school or town to host a CHaOS visit next year please contact us.

CHaOS once again enjoyed running a series of events at this year's Science Festival, which was packed out with visitors on both of the main Saturdays. On Saturday 17th March, "Crash, Bang, Squelch!? was full to its fire capacity all day, and 7 spectacular talks run in the lecture theatre next door were also very well attended. The following weekend, a selection of our physics experiments were out again as part of Physics Zone at the Cavendish Laboratory, with many hundreds of people coming through the door during the day.
