CHaOS Demonstrator Section

Welcome to the demonstrator section of the CHaOS website. This page has a list of recent events that we've been looking for volunteers for. For events in the past, there's often a good chance that we'll be running a similar thing the following year.
  • About the CHaOS committee

We'd recommend that you consider joining the CHaOS committee if you enjoy our style of fun science outreach events!

The committee usually meet about three to four times a term, and being on the committee could mean just turning up at meetings and events, but there are many different roles ranging from making experiments or content for our website, to learning how to plan and run large outreach events! (We reckon we see over 8,000 people a year- more than 4 times as many as most Cambridge May balls!)

We usually elect the key members of the committee at the AGM each October (see here for AGM minutes), but we're always keen to hear from new people throughout the year!

This year's AGM is on Saturday 13th October 2018.

Making CHaOS happen is usually a lot of fun- drop us an email if you're keen to find out more! (Check out more details below)

  • CHaOS in Freshers' Week 2010

If you're a new student at Cambridge, then welcome to the university!

CHaOS is a student society running fun, hands-on science events for thousands of members of the public every year. It's a great chance to talk about science with members of the public of all ages (mainly children and families), both in Cambridge and outside. Almost all of our events are out of term time, so fit in well with exhausting Natsci timetables! (though we welcome scientists of all persuasions, including medics, mathematicians, engineers, vets, compscis,...)

  • CHaOS volunteers wanted in Michaelmas 2010!

If you're already a student at Cambridge, or will be coming up as a fresher in Michaelmas 2010,
getting involved in making CHaOS happen might be great for you!

You can get involved as a demonstrator:
    - you get to play with noisy, messy, fun experiments!
    - we visit local schools at the end of most Michaelmas terms
    - we run a huge event ("Crash, Bang, Squelch!") during Science week in March
    - we run a month long tour of schools and town halls each July (the "Roadshow")

You can also get involved as a member of the committee:
    - making new experiments! (and helping to fix the old ones too!)
    - helping us plan and advertise our events (we see more people than about 4/5 May balls!)
    - running the events on the day

    CBS indoor experiments

We'll be at the Fresher's fair in October, but do have a look around our website or drop us an email to contact@chaosscience.org.uk
(If you're a Cambridge university student, you can sign up for the CHaOS email list (Soc-chaos-interested) at the mailman system. Log in via Raven and search for 'Soc-chaos-interested' then click 'subscribe')

Hope to see you at a CHaOS event soon!

  • Sign up for Summer Roadshow 2010

CHaOS is a student society that runs fun science events outside term time, both in Cambridge and further afield. We run a month long science roadshow with our favourite experiments, visiting schools and town halls around the country for 4 weeks during late June and July. We need keen volunteers to demonstrate these experiments to children and families. If you like explaining science to the public, and enjoy camping and BBQs, the CHaOS Roadshow could be for you! CHaOS will cover your travel and living expenses, so volunteering will only cost your time!

  • What is CHaOS? - Saturday 30th January 2010

Come and discover fun science outreach activities that you can get involved with in Cambridge. CHaOS is a student society that runs "Crash, Bang, Squelch!", a huge event in Science week at the end of this term* and a Science Roadshow that travels the country in July. We need keen students to take part in these events - could you be one of them?

If you're interested in finding out more, on Saturday 30th January the CHaOS committee are running a mini Science Roadshow just for you, so you can talk to our volunteers and have a go with some of our cool experiments. There'll also be drinks and nibbles. Drop in at the Graduate Union (on Silver Street, see website for map) anytime between 11am- 3pm.

If you want any further details, feel free to email us.

    Hope to see you there!
